The celebration which took place in the Faculty’s Boardroom was attended by honorees, Faculty members, students, and distinguished alumni, including Hon. Minister Dr. Jumoke Oduwole. Also in attendance was Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo, SAN, former Oyo State Attorney-General & Commissioner for Justice and an erstwhile Dean of the faculty.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research), Professor Bola Oboh, praised the Faculty’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence.
She described the feat as proof of UNILAG’s enduring culture of excellence, and urged the graduates to uphold the highest ideals of the legal profession in both character and practice.
A visibly elated Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Abiola Sanni, SAN, described the graduates’ performance as “stellar, reflecting the Faculty’s rigorous academic standards.” He also highlighted recent milestones recorded by the faculty, including a strategic partnership with the University of Dundee in the United Kingdom.
In their goodwill messages, Oduwole and Oyewo underscored the importance of professionalism, integrity, national service, and loyalty to their alma mater as the graduates step into legal careers.
The highlight of the hybrid event was the formal recognition of the 43 honorees, with each receiving a commemorative medal and a congratulatory handshake — a symbolic celebration of personal achievement and institutional pride.
The UNILAG Alumni Association also used the event to announce some of its transformative initiatives. The UNILAG Alumni President Worldwide, Engr. Ife Oyedele, unveiled plans for the UNILAG Alumni App — a digital platform designed to connect graduates across generations and national borders.
Describing the App as “more than a networking tool,” Oyedele said it would become a vibrant ecosystem to celebrate achievements of the alumni, fostering mentorship, and building a legacy of impact.
He also announced plans for an ultra-modern 1,800-bed hostel to enhance infrastructure and student welfare. Citing instances from global institutions, Oyedele encouraged the new lawyers to join the alumni association and contribute to the university’s growth.
The event captured UNILAG’s dual mission of nurturing academic excellence and embracing innovation. While the First Class graduates embodied the university’s academic rigour and excellence, the launch of the UNILAG Alumni App signaled a bold step towards a connected and transformative future.
