INVESTIGATIVE REPORT
“Inmates Are Trading Sex for 5,000 Naira; They Are Doing Ridiculous Things Just to Get Feeding” —Ayo Oladiran
A new investigative report, compiled over four years, has exposed the Nigerian prison system as a hotbed of corruption and deprivation, forcing inmates into extreme acts, including trading sex for as little as N5,000, simply to survive.
According to a report by News Central TV, on Saturday October, 11, 2025, Freelance Reporter Ayo Oladiran, who worked on the extensive research and data-gathering initiative, revealed that systemic failure by the government to provide basic necessities is driving this desperate economy behind bars.
Oladiran stated that the condition of correctional facilities has been a long-standing issue for his organization.
“The prison system has been something that has been of concern to the organization at large,” Oladiran noted. “So this report is something that spanned over the course of four years, four years of data gathering research and investigation”
The core finding of the investigation points to a shocking exchange of sex for survival money due to the lack of government provisions.
“And then at the end of the day we find out that inmates are trading sex for 5,000 Naira,” the report stated.
Oladiran emphasized that these desperate acts are a direct result of the government’s failure to fulfill its responsibility to inmates in its custody.
She concluded: “They are doing ridiculous things just to get feeding and basic amenities because the government is yet to provide standard products for them to use in terms of health care, feeding and other areas of life basically.”
