The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law (NBA-SPIDEL) has constituted a high-powered 45-member Conference Planning Committee (CPC) for the Section’s forthcoming Annual Conference scheduled to hold in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State from the 18th to 21st November, 2025.
According to the press statement made available to CITY LAWYER and signed by NBA-SPIDEL Caretaker leadership, the 2025 SPIDEL CPC has leading criminal justice reform expert and founder of Prisoners Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), Assoc. Prof. Uju Agomoh as Chair while Mr. Paul Daudu, SAN is the Alternate Chair.
Aside from six Senior Advocates of Nigeria, former NBA-SPIDEL Council Member and SPIDEL Electoral Committee Chairman, Mr. Emeka Nwadioke as well as former SPIDEL Secretary, Dr. Princess Frank-Chukwuani were also named as CPC Members alongside the Chairman of NBA Calabar Branch, Enome Amatey, who will serve as CPC Secretary. To encourage young lawyers to understudy the process, Mr. Anayo Modestus Onyekwere, MFR (popularly known as Kanayo O. Kanayo) and new wig Senator Dino Melaye were also appointed as CPC Members.
Other senior advocates who made the list are Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chairman for the Enugu NBA-AGC, Mr. Ikeazor Akaraiwe, SAN; Chief Assam Assam, SAN; Mr. Mba Ukweni, SAN; Mr. Ejike Ezenwa, SAN and Mr. Andrew Odum, SAN.
It is recalled that NBA President Afam Osigwe, SAN had named former NBA-SPIDEL Chairman, Prof. Paul Ananaba, SAN and former NBA Assistant Secretary, Mr. Okey Ohagba, as Chairman and Secretary respectively of a Transition Committee to rejuvenate the section following the crisis that engulfed it during the Yakubu Maikyau SAN Administration.
The NBA-SPIDEL Annual General Meeting resolved at its session in Enugu during the just concluded Annual General Conference to hold the next Annual Conference in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The AGM also approved the appointment of the Conference Planning Committee.
